How To Choose a Host For Your WordPress Blog

To setup your first successful home business blog, you need a couple of things in place. You want to make sure you use the self-hosted version of WordPress, which means you must buy a domain name or a web address, also know as a url. Second, you need a hosting account. Both of these are extremely easy to acquire, and very affordable. At this writing a domain name is about $8 to $10 per year, and hosting around $5 to $8 a month (less if you pre-pay for the year).

Keep this tip in mind: Always buy hosting from a company that specializes in hosting, NOT from a company that specializes in selling domain names. When you need tech help, you want to know that the people you are paying for your hosting, are specialists with the tech support department and customer service support you will need. Personally, I never buy hosting from the company that I buy domain names from, though I have bought domain names from my hosting company. I've found it costs a little bit more to do so, but can be worth it when you are getting started, to have everything in one place.

My hosting account is with HostMonster.com, and another good one is HostGator.com. Whichever you select, you will find they know their stuff and have a fast response when you have questions.

Once you have your domain name and a hosting account with one of the above companies, when you login you will see on your "CPanel" (control panel) the link you use to install WordPress automatically and effortlessly. Then comes the fun of optimizing it with plugins and personalizing it with a new theme, widgets and other customizations.
