Got an ex you're thinking of going no contact with? This strategy can be helpful in getting your ex back after a breakup, and here's why.

The no contact rule's success is dependent on how long you maintain it for. If you say you're going to cut off contact with an ex for just a week or two, you're not allowing enough time to fully clear the air between you.

30 days is ideal for no contact. After that time, you can make a more rational decision about whether you want to see your ex again, or not.

Some people are confused about why no contact works or what it even is. No contact is simply a time in which you don't call, text, or email your ex - you just break off contact with them completely.

This allows you to get your head on straight again. You'll find after being dumped that your emotions are out of control. It's simply a depressive spiral that ensues after a breakup, and it's one that can throw our whole lives into chaos.

Breakups are really tough life situations to have to deal with - they're right up on the list with moving, deaths in the family, and other such crises.

The good thing about no contact is that it lets both you and your ex have time apart. Not only are you able to clear your mind, but she is as well. This allows you both to come back to the relationship with a "clean slate" so to speak.

It's very important to maintain a period of 30 days no contact where you're focusing on helping yourself get out of depression. You really need this time - and so does your ex. Look at it as a chance to clear your mind, and for them to clear theirs as well.

When you finally go on to break no contact, you'll be able to do so in a positive, rational state of mind. You won't have all the anger and resentment on your mind, since you'll have had a chance to clear the air.

Now, this doesn't immediately guarantee you getting your ex back of course. You will still need to follow a proper set of techniques for re-establishing contact, setting up the first meeting with your ex, and working through the reconciliation process. It does take time, but many couples manage to get their relationships back together even after the worst of fights, simply by allowing this no contact period.

It is an understated technique that has a lot of power in allowing couples to come back refreshed and renewed after a breakup - and in the right frame of mind to heal the old wounds.
