CHEF HATS
Chefs all over the world wear a special kind of ‘chef hats’ known as ‘ toque blanche’ popularly pronounced as 'tock', These chef hats prevent their hair from falling in the food and also keeps sweat away from the face. Its height allows air to circulate thereby keeping the chef’s head cool. However, the tradition of wearing chef hats is very old and is known to have been in practice since 17th centaury but their shapes and sizes have undergone various considerable changes since then. Even though with all these noticeable changes, the chef hats are still worn by all the chefs and cooks worldwide with utmost pride.
Today these chef hats are available in various colors’, shapes and sizes. Generally the Chef hats are made of stiff starched cloth like cotton or paper and fiber disposable hats. The type of hat worn by a chef depends upon his experience, position and ranking. The height or the number of pleats in the chef hats has a direct relation with the chef’s ranking; it is the symbol of his position in the kitchen. The most popular and common chef hat is a vertical pleats hat and is most common in the hotel industry worldwide. However various hotels and restaurants get their logo printed on their hat to give it a distinct look.
CHEF TROUSERS
Chef Trousers are another significant part of their attire and are generally made of light weight cotton. Chef trousers are mostly loosely and comfortably sized in order to make the chefs feel relaxed and comfortable during their work, as the kitchen becomes warm so the loosely fit chef trousers keep them cool and provides them comfort. All the more, their trousers have inbuilt fire protection which also protects them from any accident in the kitchen.
Traditionally, the trousers were of checked black and white color, so that no stains were easily visible. However today the color of chef trousers is not fixed or compulsory, mostly the chefs round the world mix and match different colored trousers according to their liking. But even today most of them wear dark colored trousers as spots and stains are not clearly visible on them.
