Well read on because HIIT might be just the ticket you need to break right through that plateau in a fraction of the time you've been spending on so-called traditional "cardio" training routines.
Interval training (also called HIIT - High Intensity Interval Training) is a very popular cardio exercise routine right now. ??It's very much the polar opposite of LSD - Long Slow Distance. Interval training is brief and ultra intense - like sprinting would be. ??LSD, on the other hand, is much longer and done slower like jogging might be. Scientific studies have shown that interval training is a lot more efficient than LSD. ??It provides you a lot of the same advantages that LSD does, in merely a short amount of time. ??And it offers you lots of other advantages that LSD doesn't.
Essentially, LSD is just aerobic training, meaning that it's a process that the body generates energy to execute with oxygen. ??Or in other words, you're not breathing that hard. Whereas,??Interval training, is anaerobic training, meaning it's an activity that the body creates energy to perform without oxygen. ??Or in other words, you are breathing hard. LSD training increases your aerobic capabilities. Makes sense. ??Interval training, nevertheless, increases anaerobic capacity (which again, makes sense) and aerobic capacity. ??You're actually getting 2 for the price of one. Interval training has likewise shown very good at getting rid of fat, because at the completion of a workout session, your metabolism remains "cranked up" for quite a number of hours after. So, how can you make sure that you're not wasting your time, and still take advantage of the benefits of interval training? Simple - just select some intense activities, and execute them at an average intensity. ??This can comprise of playing a number of sports, or better yet, heavy circuit-style weight lifting. It is still a version of interval training, which will be shorter bursts of highly intense activity. ??However, because the cardio won't be at 100% intensity, you just execute with a little more volume to compensate for it.
