Whether you're coordinating the festivities for a wedding or a birthday or graduation party, the band you select should provide entertainment that will be appealing to a majority of the guests attending the event.
As you might have already figured out, planning a wedding is a huge undertaking. There are many different details and plans that have to be worked out and it can get a little hectic at times. One important part of the planning process that you do not want to slack on is the reception.
The musical entertainment really is one of the most important things in the organising of your event.
There are many ways to entertain your guests these days but the most popular ones are still a typical DJ or a live wedding band.
Live bands are definitely the best but only if you get the right one. What things should you look out for?
The first step before choosing a wedding party band is to know what your guests themselves would prefer to listen to. Ask a few of the guests in advance what they would like to hear.
All too many wedding planners choose a band based on their own likes and dislikes rather than tailoring their choice to the tastes of the people who will be in attendance.
The next step in searching for a live band is to try to catch a performance of each band you're considering. Most bands play public gigs in addition to private events, so ask them if there's a performance you can try to take in.
An alternative is to at least ask them for a live music CD or a video of one of their performances. This will give you an idea of the wedding band's suitability for your reception.
It is important to know their performance skill levels too. Just how professional are they? How long have they been together?
Check out the biographies in their written information or on their website. This will give you at least a good idea of the expertise of the band as a whole.
The party band you are looking at should have a website so start your research there. The website should contain photos, musical tracks and videos. These will help you in your decision as to whether the band are professional enough for you.
You might have some luck and find some testimonials on their website. This will clue you in as to how well their previous customers enjoyed their music and performance. If you happen to stumble on the bands repertoire, make sure that you are taking a look at that as well.
Also take a look at the list of the bands repertoire to see if it is suitable for your own event.
Of course the price of hiring your wedding band plays an important role in the decision making process, so you will need to discuss this with the band manager before you hire them.
You will then need to pay a deposit to secure your date.
About a week before your wedding party call the wedding band to confirm the details of your event. Check the song list if you want to and discuss the dress code.
Remember that the band is likely to have travelled a long way to play at your event so it is only common curtesy to ensure that you provide them with a meal.
Finally ensure they have a written timetable of events so they know exactly when they are expected to perform.
